Self-Care Practices That Take Five Minutes or Less

A little extra TLC goes a long way. It’s important that you engage in self-care regularly for better health and extended happiness. Even if you keep the busiest schedule in the world, there is no excuse not to take some time out of each day to give your body, mind, soul, and even home the time and attention it deserves.

Here are some self-care practices you can engage in that take five minutes or less:

Infuse your water with fresh fruits, veggies, herbs, and spices.

Give yourself a boost of vitamins and minerals by freshening up your water bottle. You’ll find hundreds of recipes online for infused water. Make up a big pitcher to keep in the fridge or fill your water bottle with your favorite recipe right away.

Give yourself a quick massage.

Self-massage first thing in the morning is a great way to stimulate the mind and awaken the senses in the body. Use your favorite scented massage oil and use small circular motions starting from your feet until you reach your scalp. Use long strokes on the long bones of your legs and arms.

Send a message to a loved one and let them know you’re thinking of them.

In five minutes, you can reach out to someone you cherish and completely transform the course of their day. It takes little effort to send an email, text or message via social media. Consider how you’ll reap the rewards when they write you back. It’s enough to make you feel really good about the day.

Repeat your favorite affirmations.

Use life-affirming statements that start with “I am...” You can customize them to reflect however you’re feeling at the moment. For example, if you want to feel better about your health, you can say, “I am strong,” or “I am well.”

Do a five-minute guided meditation.

Letting go of the physical world for a few minutes to focus on your breath is highly recommended. You can meditate virtually anywhere (except in traffic). Using a five-minute guided meditation helps you accomplish two things. It allows you set a time limit on the experience and it gives you step-by-step instructions on what you need to do next to relax.

Turn off your smartphone and enjoy the silence.

Bliss out by letting go of your attachment of being connected to the digital world at all times. You can accomplish a truly peaceful feeling daily by shutting off your phone for a few minutes or even the day, if possible, to focus on other things. It’s a great way to catch up on the book you’re reading or provide yourself with extra time to spend outdoors.

Treat yourself to some self-care. Even the busiest person can spare five minutes out of their schedule to treat themselves right. The list above serves as a reminder of how very important it is to take good care of your physical and mental health by tending to your personal needs. With so many demands on your time, it’s imperative that you put yourself first for a couple of minutes each day.
