Healthy Ways to Retreat from the World This Fall
When brainstorming things to do this fall, don’t underestimate the power of a much-needed break from your everyday experiences. Retreats are a necessary part of life. You need to stray from your routine. It allows you time to reflect on the things that matter most to you and allows you the opportunity to invest in yourself, too.
Break Up with Your Normal Routine
There is no reason why you can’t allow yourself to do things differently. Your reluctance is likely fear-based and without merit. The world won’t end if you decide to spend a day lounging around the house, cooking good food, and listening to music. You can even sleep in without feeling a shred of guilt because your body could use extra rest.
Here are healthy ways to retreat from the world this fall:
- Spend the day reading a good book. How many times as an adult, have you been able to do that? Probably not very often. Curling up on the couch or hammock to enjoy a literary treat is at the top of many people’s list. It’s a relaxing activity that allows you to escape reality for a short time. Books are portable forms of entertainment that you can take with you wherever you go.
- Binge-watch an entire season of a TV show you’ve wanted to see. Again, it’s an activity that you seldom get to do but enjoy. There is no shame in “Netflixing and chilling.” It’s a very legitimate way to relax, catch up on your favorite shows, and spend time with the people you care about.
- Climb under a blanket and snuggle with your favorite two-legged or four-legged family member. Physical contact is so significant to your health and well-being. It just feels good to hug and be hugged. If you’re limiting the amount of contact, you have with humans currently, make sure your pet is available for some hardcore snuggling. They’ll love having your undivided attention.
- Take an entire day off of social media. A complete digital detox helps you prioritize the things that matter to you most. It can be entirely beneficial in many ways. It helps you realize what does and doesn’t matter. It also allows you to work on projects and hobbies that you never seem to have enough time to engage in regularly.
Take time out for yourself. It’s good for your physical and mental health to retreat from the world occasionally. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to take a break from your daily obligations, schedule time to do so right away. Even a few hours of rest and relaxation can be enough to recharge your batteries.
Why You Need to Take a Break from the Ordinary
By taking a break from the things you know, you allow yourself to experience vastly different feelings that you would ordinarily feel. You allow room for magic to occur. It isn’t until something pushes you out of your comfort zone that you see just how amazing it can be. Break up with being busy this fall, and allow yourself to explore what it means to retreat from time to time.
