Get Creative with Your Wellness
Sometimes getting better and concentrating on yourself are the last thing you feel like you can concentrate on. And while self-care is a term that gets thrown around a lot, some people mistake it for giving themselves the freedom to be selfish. In fact, it’s quite the opposite, and is a bit like the oxygen mask principle – put your oxygen mask on first so you can help whomever you’re with theirs. Especially if you have a lot on your plate and a lot of obligations that only you can take care of, you need to take care of yourself first to stay fit, prepared, and as happy as possible while doing them.
Staying and/or Getting Organized
One stressor that can go unnoticed but definitely still affect you is a disorganized home and/or work area. Getting organized can be hard to initiate, but if you set succinct goals it can become a wellness routine, not unlike exercise or meditating.
Learn Something New
Taking the time to learn a new skill or a language, or simply read up on something you’re interested in will keep your brain flexible and remind you that you’re still capable of taking in new information and processing it. This can be huge for the positive part of your ego, which will keep you moving in a good direction.
Listen to a Podcast
There are plenty of wellness podcasts out there, and they’re often perfect for background listening. You can even do this with entertainment podcasts, as well, especially since the conversations are intended to make you feel like you’re right in the room. It can be nice to have a stranger feel like they’re cheering you on, or putting a show on just for you.
Tend to Or Start Your Garden
Gardening is a zen-like experience for many people. Some are extensively organized, and some are slapped together. Whatever your method, putting together something that has obvious, observable results can help with positive feelings and allow you to get outside of yourself for a few minutes a day.
Go for A Bike Ride
Some exercise strains the whole body, and any exercise that involves running or walking somewhere always requires a run back. At the very least, a bike ride makes that transition a little easier and keeps your heart pumping the whole way, and the wind in your hair. The power of travel on well-being can’t be underestimated.
Summary
Don’t be afraid to try new things to keep yourself happy and healthy. Taking that little extra time out for yourself is not the crime it might feel like. And if you’re not able to get away to take care of a little bit of wellness, there are plenty of options you can exercise at home or during a break at work. Make sure you think about how these things make you feel and what else you might do to continue to feel better, and if something doesn’t work for you, don’t hesitate to switch gears.
